Our specialist team completed the design and construction of a major road bridge project, enhancing connectivity between Wanneroo Road and Ocean Reef Road. This comprehensive project to improve traffic flow through one of Perth’s most congested intersections, involved an innovative temporary traffic management solution that minimised traffic disruption and provided a safe environment for road workers as well as the 70,000 daily road users and pedestrians, including those with disabilities. Our concept of “building a road, to build a road” enabled multiple complex reconfigurations to match construction staging, providing an improvement on the original traffic situation with improved traffic flow and waiting times whilst the construction of the main works took place.
The final product included the construction of a grade separated interchange, with elevated Wanneroo Road bridge over Ocean Reef Road. Additionally, the project encompassed signalized loop ramps to connect Wanneroo Road and Ocean Reef Road, a continuous grade separated shared path and arch underpass along Ocean Reef Road, multiple connections, modifications and signalized intersections to local connecting roads, retaining walls, traffic noise mitigation structures, screen walls and safety barriers. We also implemented lighting, CCTV cameras, fibre intelligent Transport Systems, extensive relocation or modification of existing services, fencing, landscaping, and public art.
Our team’s exceptional delivery of this project was formally recognised with the project named the winner of the Civil Contractors Federation of WA’s annual Earth Awards for the category $30M – $75M in 2021.
